What is denim hair and why is it so popular?

When we say “denim,” we’re definitely not talking about your jeans and jackets. We’re talking about the new denim-inspired trend that has taken over by storm. There’s no denying you’ve seen celebrities, such as Kylie Jenner and Nicole Richie, rocking this glamorous shade as you’re scrolling through your Instagram, and we’re about to tell you why everyone’s loving it. First, there’s so many shades you can go with, such as indigo. This ultra-dark shade adds intensity to your hair and contrasts greatly with both dark and light skin. You can also try stonewash. This shade is more of a greyish-blue and almost ends with a metallic look. If neither of these are for you, maybe the acid wash is the one you’re vying for. This color is more of a pastel blue and hints of grey, so you get the perfect mix of a faded blue, just like those worn-out jeans you can’t get rid of! Girls are crazy for denim hair because it goes with anything. You can dress it up or dress it down with a blouse or your staple jean jacket. You don’t have to worry about clashing your clothes while you’re embracing the blues in your hair. But wait, this isn’t it. Denim hair also works well as a balayage or ombre. How awesome is that?! You can pick and choose where you want your icy blue or dark denim to pop. Plus, add some curls and a red lipstick, and watch heads turn your way with each step you take!

Trust the Process

As you may already know, getting the denim shade doesn’t just happen overnight. What we mean by that is, it first requires some bleaching in order to achieve the shade of blue that you particularly want to be strutting. Whether you go with indigo, stone-wash, or acid-blue, there’s a color for anyone! What you’ll have to keep in mind, however, is that if you currently have dark hair, you will have to pre-lighten it slightly to get a stronger blue. Not to worry, we can take care of everything from start to finish right here at our salon! For better results, it’s ideal to start the hair-dying process slowly and build up to your ideal shade. If you don’t want to go full-blue right away, you can just add some highlights or some various hues of blues here and there for that subtle change to see how you like it. The great thing about denim hair, though, is that it, unlike your jeans, it’s a one-size-fits-all color, so once you’ve gotten the shade you want, you’ll be stealing the show and making waves no matter where you go!

The great thing about denim hair is that it’s a bit easier to maintain than other colors, however, you’ll still have to take great care of it to maintain your shade. When you lighten your hair, you do the most damage to it, but you can keep the moisture and color you want by making sure you invest in a good shampoo and conditioner. Using a silver or purple shampoo will allow you to keep those brassy tones away and banish any yellow color that may appear. We know you’ll want to style your hair, but keeping your use of heat to a minimum will allow you to maintain that blue shade a lot longer! You can always consider just washing your hair and letting it air dry. Denim is casual, so why not be casual with your hair too?!
