Add Some Red to Your Strands

By July 30, 2021No Comments

Red is a color that’s been a fan-favorite for a long time and can be styled in many different ways! We’ll chat about some options that you have on how to incorporate this lovely shade into your locks if you’re looking for a change. Once you’re ready, give us a call at Salon Antoine to schedule your appointment!

Highlights

One way to slightly or even dramatically switch up your look is with highlights. There are so many variations even with this choice that will ultimately freshen up your overall style. For example, you can start with just a few red strands here and there to see if you’re liking the color and if you’d want more in the future. If you’d like to pair some face-framing highlights with the rest, the choice is fully up to you. The great thing about highlights is that you can mix more than one shade together to in the end create that gorgeous look that you’ve been wanting. Plus, we can place the various hues at different lengths for a seamless blend that will show instantly when you decide to curl your hair.

Balayage & Ombré

If you’d like to dip your toes even more into this jaw-dropping hue, we won’t stop you! You can decide to take your red to a whole new level with a balayage or ombré. The first method uses foil to “paint” streaks of this color into your existing shade. It typically starts really close to the roots and cascades into the red. This way, you can still keep some of your natural color or the one that you have at the moment. An ombre, on the other hand, usually begins at ear-level, so that’s where the gorgeous shade will start and you can, as always, have some darker reds and some lighter ones for a contrast to create dimension. Whichever you choose, you simply can’t go wrong!

Upkeep

While red is a beautiful color, it does require some maintenance. You’ll want to make sure that you invest in a color-treated shampoo to prevent your hair from fading and turning a different hue than the original. We also recommend to visit us in a month or so for a touch-up, but that time frame is up to you. At this point, you can also get a haircut to keep your ends healthy and even add some more red, or try a different color if you’d like to. We know that you’re going to want to straighten or curl the locks to show off the shade, but when this is the case, spray some heat protector on the hair beforehand to prevent damage. If you can, maybe just let your hair air dry and opt for more of a natural look here and there for longer and shinier strands.
